Privacy policy
This explains what Hound App collects on this website and in the Hound App app, why, and what happens to it. It describes the service as it actually works today. By using the service you confirm that you are over 18.
Summary
- We collect your answers about your dog, your email address, and what you do in your plan, so we can build the plan and deliver it.
- Payments go through Paddle.com Market Ltd (Paddle). We never see your card details.
- Only if you agree, Claude, an AI by Anthropic, writes the notes around your dog's exercises and answers you in the coach chat. Without that, the notes are text we wrote, and nothing is sent to Anthropic.
- We do not sell your data. There is no circumstance in which we would.
- You can ask for a copy of your data, or for it to be deleted, at any time by emailing info@houndapp.xyz.
1. What we collect
Information you give us
- Your answers about your dog. Name, age, breed, sex, where they came from, what is going wrong, how severe it is, how long it has been happening, what you have already tried, how it makes you feel, and how much time you can give. This is the entire basis of the plan, and it is why we ask.
- Your account. Your email address and your password, or your Apple or Google identity if you sign in with one of them.
- No photo of your dog. This website does not ask for one and does not upload one. Your dog's illustration is drawn from their breed. In the app you can attach a photo to a coach message, and that is the only photo we ever receive.
- What you do in the plan, in the app: the exercises you log, how they went, any notes you write, your progress and your streak.
- Chat, in the app: the messages you send, the replies, and any photo you attach to a message.
Information from others
- From Paddle: whether your payment went through, the status of your subscription, and the email address you paid with.
- From Apple, through RevenueCat, if you subscribe inside the app: your purchase and its status.
- From Apple or Google, if you choose to sign in with them: your account identifier and email address.
Information collected automatically
- On this website, before you have an account, everything you answer is stored in your own browser, in
localStorage. That is what lets you reload the page at question 12 without losing your work, and if you clear your browser data it is gone. Your answers themselves are not sent to us. What is sent is described under analytics below: which screens you reached, and your answers reduced to categories. This use of local storage is strictly necessary to provide something you asked for, so it does not require consent. - In the app, the times of day you open it, so that reminders arrive when they are useful. Reminders are scheduled on your phone; there is no push server.
- The practice camera in the app, if you use it, analyses the picture on your phone. Nothing from it is uploaded.
- Widgetskeep your dog's name, the current week, your streak and today's exercise on your phone so they can display them.
- Your approximate location, worked out from your IP address by MaxMind when you reach the payment page or your plan is built. We use it for one thing: some places we are not allowed to offer this service or its AI features in. We are told the country and the region, never a street address, and we do not store it.
- Analytics, described in section 3.
2. Why we use it, and on what legal basis
| Purpose | Data | Legal basis |
|---|---|---|
| Build and deliver your plan | Your answers, your account, what you do in the plan | Performing our contract with you |
| Take payment and manage your subscription | Email address, subscription and purchase status | Performing our contract; complying with tax law |
| AI-written plan notes and coach chat replies | Your dog's profile, your answers, your chat messages, any photo you attach to a message, this week's exercises, recent logs and notes | Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time in the app |
| Understand where people get stuck, and fix problems | Screens reached, events, answers as categories | Our legitimate interest in improving the service |
| Send service messages | Email address | Performing our contract |
| Keep accounts secure and prevent abuse | Account and usage records | Our legitimate interest in protecting the service |
| Measure which adverts lead to a subscription | Cookies Meta sets in your browser, your email address in a scrambled form that cannot be read back, which pages you reached, and whether you subscribed and for how much | Your consent, which you can withdraw at any time below |
| Not offering the service where we may not | Your IP address, and the country and region it is in | Complying with our legal obligations |
3. Who we share it with
- We do not sell your data.
- We do not use your answers to advertise to you elsewhere.
Analytics on this website. We use PostHog to understand which parts of the questions people leave at, and whether a payment went through or failed. It is hosted in the EU. It keeps a random identifier in your browser's local storage (not a cookie), and it receives your answers about your dog as categories, such as the age band or which problems you picked. It never receives your dog's name, your email address, anything you typed in your own words, or your card details. If you create an account, what it recorded is linked to that account.
Advertising. We use the Meta pixel and Meta's Conversions API to measure which adverts lead to a subscription. Neither runs until you agree. If you agree, the pixel keeps two cookies in your browser so that a click on an advert and a subscription can be recognised as the same visit, and we tell Meta when a checkout opens and when a subscription is paid for. Some of that is sent from your browser and some from our server; both need your agreement and both stop when you withdraw it. Your email address is scrambled before it leaves us, into a form Meta can match against its own records and nobody can read back. We never send your dog's name, anything you typed in your own words, or your card details.
Your choice right now: you have not answered yet, so nothing is being measured. .
These companies process your data on our behalf:
| Who | What for |
|---|---|
| Supabase | The database, sign-in and file storage. Holds your account, your dog, your plan, your logs and your chat. Data is stored in Ireland (EU). |
| Paddle.com Market Ltd (Paddle) | Takes the payment as merchant of record, handles tax, and sends your receipt. They receive your email address and your card details. We never receive your card details. |
| Anthropic | Claude, Anthropic's AI, writes the notes around each of your dog's exercises and the replies in the coach chat, and only if you agree. You are asked once, just before your dog's plan is built, on this website or in the app, and one answer covers both. For the notes it receives your dog's profile (name, breed, age, whether they are a rescue, and which pronouns to use) and your answers to our questions. For the chat it also receives your messages, this week's exercises, and your recent logs and notes. A photo is sent only when you attach one to a chat message. It never receives your name or your email address. You can turn it off at any time in the app, in your dog's profile, under “AI for [your dog's name]'s coach and plan notes”. Without your consent, the notes come from text we have written and nothing is sent to Anthropic. Under Anthropic's commercial terms it is not used to train their models. |
| fal.ai | Draws your dog's illustration. Receives a text description that includes your dog's breed. |
| RevenueCat | Manages subscriptions in the app. Receives your account identifier and your App Store purchases. |
| Apple | Purchases made inside the app, and Sign in with Apple if you choose it. |
| PostHog | Product analytics, hosted in the EU. In the app it records a small number of events, such as starting or finishing a practice session, never the content of your messages or notes. On this website, as described above. |
| MaxMind | Tells us which country and region an IP address is in, so we do not offer the service where we may not. Receives the IP address and nothing else. |
| Our hosting provider | Runs the server this website is served from. |
4. Your rights
If you are in the UK, the EU, or another place with equivalent law, you can ask for a copy of your data, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, object to how we use it, withdraw a consent you gave, or ask for it in a portable form. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.
If you are in California, you have the right to know what personal information we hold about you, to have it deleted or corrected, and not to be treated differently for using those rights. Declining the cookie banner stops advertising measurement.
To use any of these rights, including deleting your account and everything in it, email info@houndapp.xyz from the address on your account. We will respond within one month.
5. Age limitation
Hound App is not for children. We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has given us data, tell us and we will delete it.
6. International transfers
Some of the companies above process data outside your country, including in the United States. Where the law requires it, those transfers rely on recognised safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses.
7. Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your data in a way that affects you, we will email you before it takes effect. See also our terms of service.
8. How long we keep it
Your account, plan, logs and chat are kept while your account exists. Ask us to delete it and we will, within 30 days, except for records of payments that we or Paddle are required by tax law to retain. Answers still sitting in your browser are deleted by clearing your browser data, or by starting the questions again.
